There’s a whole world beneath our feet… and some of its most fascinating inhabitants are hiding in plain sight.

Our woodlands are home to an astonishing variety of fungi. But how many of us really know what we’re looking at?

Join our expert instructor Kirsty for a fascinating journey through Sanquhar Woods in Forres, discovering the secrets of the fungi that thrive in our local woodlands.

Along the way, you’ll learn how to recognise different species, discover which are edible, which are poisonous and why fungi play such a vital role in keeping our natural world healthy.

Whether you’re a complete beginner, a keen nature enthusiast or simply someone who enjoys discovering something new, this is a chance to see the woodland through different eyes.

Saturday 17 October | 10am–2pm
Sanquhar Woods, Forres

Who can join?

Open to anyone aged 16 and over, with no previous knowledge or experience required.

Our woodland walk will follow established paths, although there are some inclines along the way. If you have any concerns about accessibility, please get in touch.

What should I bring?

We’ll be outdoors throughout the session, so warm clothing, waterproofs and suitable footwear are essential. Bring a packed lunch, too, as we’ll be exploring into the afternoon.

No specialist equipment is needed, although a notebook might come in handy for recording your discoveries.
