Wild Things’ Woodland Activity Leader Training (WALT) is a unique alternative to Forest School Professionally Recognised by the General Teaching Council for Scotland and officially endorsed by Education Scotland. Here, you will learn the essential outdoor skills needed to lead your own exciting outdoor sessions! You will gain the skills, knowledge and expertise to deliver inspiring environmental education, tailored to the needs of your students.

This course is the 3-day practical part of our 7-day WALT course. It is ideally suited to anyone interested in leading groups in an outdoor setting. Whether you’re an English or a Mathematics teacher, an environmental professional or an outdoor enthusiast, our WALT will enable you to take groups of all ages and abilities on exciting and educational outdoor adventures.
With the WALT course you will learn the necessary skills from scratch so you can share them with your own students when needed. These skills include:

Working since 2003, Wild Things is the leading provider of nature-based health and wellbeing programmes in the North of Scotland. Our WALT instructors are highly experienced environmental educators. They have honed their skills through years of delivering successful charitable programmes to vulnerable children and youth. We are excited to teach our expertise to WALT participants so even more children across Scotland have meaningful experiences with nature!
This course is normally completed during the three days that you are with us. However should you need to finish off any written parts after this time you will have 6 months to complete from the start date of the course.
We are proud to have been awarded Professional Recognition by the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) for our Woodland Activity Leader Training. This is one of the highest accolades offered by GTCS and means that you can obtain Professional Recognition for completing the WALT course.
