Autumn Update on Silver Saplings Programme

Silver Saplings has had a great year after a rocky start due to Covid. We’ve enjoyed working with lots of different schools, primary and secondary delivering some amazing outdoor experiences for pupils across Moray and the Highlands. Seeing the young people develop throughout the programme whilst working towards John Muir Awards or our accredited Introduction to Bushcraft has been fantastic.

During the first part of the year, we had to suspend our work with older adults due to the restrictions, but I’m pleased to say we are now back in care homes delivering our 6 week nature and well-being programme. The activity coordinators and carers have welcomed us into the homes and the residents have really engaged with us, learning about plants and bugs amongst other things and dissecting owl pellets!

Our Silver Sapling adventures are in full swing taking groups of older adults to explore the wild and wonderful places across the North of Scotland. We have 7 groups going out every month which is amazing. We still have a space for a new group in Inverness and one from around Fochabers – so if you know a group who would enjoy regular day trips then give us a shout.
