We have unveiled our “Call of the Wild” campaign this month to protect Wild Things.
Without immediate support, we are facing the prospect of not being able to provide the services we do at the moment, leaving thousands of people a year without access to transformative outdoor education, conservation projects, and wellbeing initiatives.
“The ‘Call of the Wild’ campaign is more than just a fundraising effort; it’s a call to action for everyone who believes in the power of nature to inspire and heal,” said Luke Strachan, CEO of Wild Things.
“With the support of our community, we can continue to offer life-changing outdoor experiences that promote well-being and environmental consciousness.”
Backed by High-Profile Supporters
The charity has already won support from politicians and celebrities, including Wild Things’ patron, world-renowned wildlife filmmaker Gordon Buchanan, who pledged his unwavering support.
First Minister John Swinney also voiced his recognition of the charity’s vital role in Scotland’s environmental education and community wellbeing.

Life-Changing Programmes at Risk
Wild Things has become a cornerstone for nature-based education and conservation in Scotland, offering a wide range of inclusive programmes:
-
School Programmes: Hands-on learning where children discover wildlife, ecosystems, and environmental stewardship.
-
Silver Saplings Adventures: Outdoor initiatives for older adults that reduce social isolation, boost wellbeing, and strengthen community ties. A recent Robert Gordon University study praised the programme for its impact on mental stimulation, personal growth, and social cohesion.
-
Inclusive Sessions: Tailored activities for adults and young people with additional support needs, building creativity, skills, and confidence through meaningful engagement with nature.
Despite success in fundraising for frontline activities, the charity says it struggles to cover the hidden but essential costs of operations.
“We believe that everyone – no matter their age or ability – should have the opportunity to explore, learn from, and care for the natural world,” Strachan added.
“But we cannot do it alone.”
A Call to Action
The £20,000 appeal will directly support Wild Things’ outdoor education, conservation projects, and community outreach programmes. The charity stresses that even small donations will make a difference.
By keeping its doors open, Wild Things hopes to continue inspiring people of all ages to develop a lifelong curiosity about the natural world and a commitment to protecting Scotland’s landscapes.
