Bushcraft for Educators: Tarps, Shelter, Fire and Food. This one-day bushcraft course is the perfect first step on your journey into the fascinating world of bushcraft and traditional living skills. We have developed this course to provide an introduction to the tools, techniques and skills required to incorporate bushcraft into your outdoor sessions. It is a great course for teachers, and educators who wish to learn some new skills.
This is your chance to spend a day learning to build fires, make shelters, put up tarps and cook some wild food with our experienced Wild things! instructors. This for anyone who enjoys taking part in outdoor activities, or is keen to gain some new transferable skills in order to improve a groups comfort and experience outdoors.
Bushcraft is all about working with the natural environment, and using materials which have been gathered, in a safe and sustainable way. No previous experience of bushcraft activities is required, just bring a love and enthusiasm for learning outdoors (and your packed lunch!).
The course runs from 9:00am until 3:00pm.
In the morning you will gain an introduction to the subject of bushcraft, whilst learning how to put up a tarp safely, and learning some nifty and clever knots (even the ‘not-phobic’ folk will be smiling by the end of the day!). We will also demonstrate some ideas for natural shelters. After lunch we will show you the materials needed for some traditional fire lighting and you will have the opportunity for cooking over a fire.
The course will also cover topics such as simple shelter building, putting up a tarp, an introduction to wild food, and traditional fire lighting. These will include:
- Traditional fire lighting, including using fire steels
- Shelter building, and using tarps
- A quick introduction to foraging and preparing wild foods
