Introduction to Bushcraft For Outdoor Leaders is an accredited two-day course for anyone who is looking to embark on the first steps into the world of bushcraft and traditional living skills. This course is the perfect introduction to basic bushcraft if you have ever wondered about wild foods, or wanted to know more about knots.

This course has been designed to be informative and fun, with the goal that by the end of the training all participants will have had the opportunity to try out a range of skills. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about safe and effective use of cutting tools, identification of plants and their uses, building natural shelters, traditional fire lighting, and campfire cooking.

Bushcraft is a wonderful way to enjoy spending time outdoors, as well as learning more about the natural environment and how cultures have interacted with and lived in nature since time immemorial.

Introduction to Bushcraft For Outdoor Leaders is an NCFE accredited two-day course which is benchmarked at Level 2.

Our Level 2 Introduction to Bushcraft course covers the use of sharp edge cutting tools, traditional fire lighting, natural shelters, tarp configuration, wild food, plant identification, and leave no trace.

There will be a strong focus on sustainability, conservation and how we can spend time in the outdoors in harmony with environment around us.

Topics cover during the course will include:

  • Bushcraft vs. Survival Skills
  • Use of Cutting Tools: Saws & Loppers (Blade choice and how to use effectively and safely)
  • SSC Code and Wild Food
  • Knives and Carving
  • Basic Tree/Plant I.D.
  • Natural Shelter Building
  • Wild Food and Outdoor Cookery
  • Traditional Fire Lighting
  • Knots and Tarps
  • Coppicing, Conservation and Leave No Trace

As this is an accredited course there will be some assessments that will reflect the participant’s current level of competency.

Wild things! provide all necessary equipment, tools, and learning resources.

Instruction and supervision is provided by our qualified and experienced Wild things! activity leaders. Maximum group size is 10 participants. Emergency Transport (4-wheel drive vehicle) is always available.

The course will run from 9:00am – 5:00pm both days and will be based in Findhorn.

We have an excellent venue for delivery of our Introduction to Bushcraft courser:

  • Wild things! is based in Findhorn Village Centre, where our head office is located in FIndhorn. There are wonderful on site facilities, with access to the incredible woodlands at nearby Culbin Forest and Sanquhar Woods for the practical and outdoor sessions.

Our Introduction to Bushcraft for Outdoor Leaders is only £120 per person for this accredited two-day training course. The course fee includes tuition, learning resources, registration fees and all necessary equipment and materials. This fee does not include accommodation or any meals. We can supply a list of nearby accommodation if required.

The Introduction to Bushcraft for Outdoor Leaders course has been accredited by NCFE. The assessments for each course are internally verified by our own experienced team of instructors and externally verified by NCFE. 

This course has been accredited under Wild things! Environmental Education in Action’s IIQ licence and we have benchmarked the course’s learning outcomes at Level 2 to allow students to consider the difficulty and depth of study.

On completion of this course, learners will receive a certificate of achievement from NCFE through our IIQ licence. This certificate of achievement is not a nationally regulated qualification.
